About Jason

I was born and raised in Brilliant, Alabama, and I've been around horses and mules all of my life. At a very young age, my grandfather would let me "help" him plow the fields with his mule by holding onto the crossbar of the plow in front of him. I bought my first horse at age 18, then sold it when I decided to join the Army.

After completing basic training, I was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in the 82nd Airborne Division as an Airborne Paratrooper. I stayed there three years until I had a severe parachuting accident which paralyzed my right lung. After this I was released from service to go home and recover. It was truly a miracle that my health was fully restored two years later.

During this time, I had fallen in love with the girl of my dreams, and we married exactly two years from our first date. Angela and I now have two, wonderful boys, Boake and Brock, who are our biggest blessings. They really try to help Dad out as much as possible.

After the Army, I was employed at a tractor implement manufacturing company for seven years. It was a good job, but my heart just wasn't in it.  Being as family oriented as I am, I dreamed of a job where my family could work closely together, especially since Angela is a school teacher and her summers are free. It wasn't until we had acquired three new horses (at the urging of Angela) that I began thinking along the lines of training horses.  Knowing that I could work with my family, and with much thought and prayer, I applied to the John Lyons Certified Trainer Program. After I was accepted, I began making preparations to be able to adhere to the six month commitment.

The Program was more intense than I could have ever imagined. I never dreamed there was that much equine knowledge to gain. Both John and Josh Lyons helped prepare me for the ultimate job of my dreams -- for that, I am so indeed thankful. Through these gentle training methods, I was able to create the softest horses I could have ever imagined.

After completing the Program, we began converting our land from having grown vegetable crops for over 100 years to pasture land to accommodate more horses. These were the first steps in creating our Reining W Ranch.

I am now living my dream as I am now working with my family, working with horses, and helping people have a better equine experience...I am very blessed!
